LOCATION: Remote (U.S.-Based). This position is open to candidates who are legally authorized to work in the United States and are currently residing in one of the following states: New York, Washington D.C., Massachusetts, New Jersey, or Virginia. MISSION OBJECTIVE:
The Development Assistant supports the Development Team in fundraising and donor management by processing and acknowledging incoming gifts, maintaining accurate and up-to-date donation/donor records, managing weekly revenue reporting and analytics, providing professional support to potential donors, and supporting departmental operations while ensuring compliance with established organizational standards. The Development Assistant applies a refined understanding of fundraising operations to support the Development team in donor relations, research, project coordination, and database management.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following is a general outline of duties and responsibilities for this role. It is not an exhaustive list, and additional duties may be assigned or removed at the discretion of the Annual Fund & Development Operations Manager to meet organizational needs and priorities:
Purpose: Execute Intricate Transactions
- Leading the gift entry process, ensuring all donations are recorded and coded correctly in Raiser’s Edge NXT in real time, and maintaining data integrity through regular review and cleansing.
- Managing the gift acknowledgment process, ensuring timely, accurate donor acknowledgments while maintaining organized records for internal coordination and audit purposes.
- Leveraging the donor database to generate weekly revenue reports and track progress toward annual fundraising goals.
- Maintaining organized files of donation documentation and collaborating with the Finance Team to reconcile donation records.
Engagement: Inform
- Monitoring Equality Now’s supporter inboxes and providing timely, professional responses to donor inquiries.
- Conducting research on prospective donors and to support the development of fundraising and donor engagement content.
- Drafting, proofreading, formatting donor correspondence and outreach materials to the highest standards.
- Assisting with list development and refinement for mailings and donor communications.
- Support upward reporting of development team performance and activities.
- Serving as the team expert on the database, supporting the team in pulling necessary information and identifying functionality that can strengthen and streamline development operations.
Delivery: Prioritize and Select
- Supporting the production and distribution of Development materials (e.g., online content, print publications, event banners, photo slideshows, videos).
- Assisting with solicitations and special mailings to engage donors effectively.
- Contributing to the planning and execution of donor events, including the annual gala, by coordinating with vendors, producing invoices and payment requests, ensuring pledges and payments are captured in weekly revenue reports, and maintaining accurate event and sponsorship documentation.
- Providing administrative support to the Global Director of Development, maintaining team calendars, preparing credit card reports and managing relevant platforms and tracking systems.
- Supporting the maintenance and enhancement of Equality Now’s presence on third-party giving platforms to support donor acquisition.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS & TARGET SKILLS PROFILE:
Substantive Knowledge
- Demonstrated proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, internet research, email, and file management.
- Experience with database management (particularly Raiser’s Edge) and project management.
- Familiarity with fundraising principles and a demonstrated interest in advancing women’s rights.
- Experience working cross-culturally/internationally.
Communication Skills
- Excellent proofreading, writing, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong phone and relationship-building skills, with the ability to interact effectively and professionally with a range of stakeholders, including high-level donors and supporters.
Execution Skills
- Outstanding organizational skills and sharp attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects alongside regular duties.
- Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and communicate work priorities to upper management.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to be resourceful and self-manage key job responsibilities.
- Flexible schedule to accommodate events, campaigns, and deadlines that may require work outside normal business hours.
- Ability to handle confidential information and keep best data practices.
Targeted Specialized Knowledge
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s Degree. In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree a combination of the following may be considered: Associate degree plus 3+ years of relevant experience in nonprofit development, donor relations, or a related field or demonstrated work experience (4+ years) with increasing responsibility in fundraising, donor management, or nonprofit operations.
- Donor Database Management Experience with Raiser’s Edge or similar donor database systems.
- International & Cross-Cultural Experience: Understanding of international nonprofit operations and engagement with diverse cultural contexts.
- Language Proficiency: Professional Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another language (such as French or Arabic) is an advantage

Total Compensation Range: $49,223 - $59,814 USD
Compensation varies based on geographic location, relevant experience, demonstrated skills, and qualifications.
